These are two UK
modified .22 calibre QB78 rifles, One is a tuned standard rifle with a
simple stock finish, the other is a full PCP conversion with a
repaired and re finished stock (oak stain and Danish oil) while I'm
waiting for the replacement stock to arrive. Both shoot around 11-11.5
foot pounds with a minimum of 50 shots between fills at 70 degrees
Fahrenheit.
Both have similar
adjustments, modifications and replacement parts to the triggers
to make them smoother, lighter and more predictable. Both have the
bolts polished and bored out (to different dimensions due to the
different nature of the propellants and hammer spring rates) Both have
had ports cleaned, matched and flowed and of course anything that
moves has been polished.
No valve work has been
undertaken other than a smaller restrictor in the new PCP main valve.
There are no hammer spring shims in fact with the co2 rifle I had to machine
a 2mm groove in the cocking block to lighten the spring and therefore
the cocking effort for a disabled shooter, (she has arthritis and
little hand strength as a result) which of course meant revising the
porting to get the rifle back up to the UK legal limit.
Both rifles show very
consistent muzzle velocity and shoot "clover leaf" groups at
10 yards, the CO2 gun is untested at greater range but the PCP shows
no obvious difference in group size out to 20 yards.
I hope you found these
interesting, any questions then please ask.
