The North Texas Airgun Militia Second Annual National Shoot
April 17th, 18th 2010 9a.m. - when we leave or they politely throw us out.

Figured we had better put up a page to disseminate all the information for this shoot. I am so pleased to see the interest that Dan and others have drummed up over this. It's a far cry from our first shoot in one of our members backyard. Below you will find information relating to this "event". As more information comes in, I will post it here.

The Shoot
Sherri and David have graciously given their permission to use their 55 acre property yet again.
Their place is located in west Fort Worth, just off of Loop 820. It is very easy to find, but
if you have problems, we will give a few contact numbers. Below is some of the photos I
took in April of 2008
and you can see photos from last years event here. So you will have a good idea of what it will look like at this time of year.

What to bring
Bring yourself, bring a friend, bring an airgun (or two, or three, .......or more!)

Clothing for Texas weather
Being that April in Texas means that the weatherman rarely gets the weather right, I suggest bringing at a bare minimum a decent jacket to wear (you may also want shorts...if you've lived in Texas you know why). There is a saying here in Texas," If you don't like the weather here just wait a minute, it'll change". We are working on getting a large tarp tent to huddle under in case the weather goes wrong, but there are no guarantees. If the heat bothers you then you might also consider bringing a pair of shorts to change into. The shooting area is covered by trees, but a hat and sunscreen in case the sun pokes through wouldn't be a bad idea either. Just pretend that you're going to the beach, but you're not sure if the beach is in Florida or Washington State.

UPDATE: Last year there was a very powerful thunderstorm that came through just 18 hours before the event.

Bug spray
Again this is Texas, we have chiggers and mosquitoes...if you've never met a chigger I suggest you bring bug spray for your legs, they are NO FUN! Might also consider tall socks, they seem to love ankles.

BBQ Grills
We had considered catering this event and charging a cover charge, but the more we worked on it, the more complicated it got and we didn't really want to charge admission. There is no grill at the shooting spot, so we need your help! Many of our attendees are going to be flying in from out of the area, so not everyone can bring a grill. If you have a grill, camp stove, propane burner, etc and wouldn't mind hauling it to the shootout we would really appreciate it. Last shootout a few guys brought a combination of grills and camp stoves and it worked out great. Also if you can't bring a grill, but wouldn't mind bringing some charcoal that would be great also. There is a nice patio area to set up your grills and it's a beautiful place to relax and flip burgers!

Food
Ya wanna eat don't ya? Typical camping/BBQing food....I think most of us know what that means. Some of the folks from out of town might also need an extra thing or two, so if ya want to eat 4 hotdogs and the package has 8 bring 'em along, they wont go to waste. Plastic forks, spoons, sporks, knives, paper towels, paper plates...yada yada yada!!!

UPDATE: GULF SHRIMP!!!! WE MUST HAVE GULF SHRIMP!!!!

Fishing poles!
Yes I said fishing poles at an airgun shoot. There is a small stream out behind the firing line, Matt pulled a couple little swimmers out of there at our last shootout and had a great time. If you'd like to split your time between fishing and airguns then bring a pole.

Chairs and shooting benches
There will be a fair number of large plastic picnic benches and chairs to sit on, but if you have a favorite bench or seat then bring it along, we will find a spot to set it up. Small folding camp chairs aren't a bad idea either unless you like eating standing up or feel like dragging your shootin' seat over to the BBQ area.

UPDATE: Last year we asked for a small donation to cover the rental of chairs and tables. This year they will be provided so no donation is necessary.

High pressure air
Many folks coming from out of town that shoot PCP's and need a way to fill them, if you have a spare tank, or a large industrial Nitrogen tank that you can bring, the more the merrier.

UPDATE: I have a call into Manny who owns Lone Star Scuba not to far from the event. He made his facilities available to us last year for those needing a fill up on their tanks...and even loaned us a spare tank to use. We'll see if he is feeling as generous this year.

Positive mental attitude
Most of us are here to shoot, eat, talk airguns and have a good time, if you are coming to talk politics you're heading to the wrong place. There is nothing less fun than 20-30 people with guns, drinking beer and talking politics...it never ends good. If you'd like to discuss how your son or daughter is Class President of their high school I'm sure most of us are happy to listen, otherwise leave it at home.

SERIOUSLY...LEAVE IT AT HOME

Other fun while in D/FW
So you've come all this way and now that it's dark outside you'd like to find something else to do....you mean you didn't come to Fort Worth JUST to shoot airguns?

The Fort Worth Stockyards

The Fort Worth Stockyards are the center of Fort Worth history. Music, dining, museums and
historic locations are all there. Whether you go for all you can eat ribs at Risky's BBQ or just
walk the street taking in the night, there's something there for you.
If you do mosey on down to the Stockyard...be sure to stop in at Joel's Art Gallery and say hi.

Billy Bobs Texas
Located in the Fort Worth Stockyards Billy Bobs Texas has nearly 3 acres inside and 20 acres of
parking, for entertainment and events, Billy Bob's has 32 Max individual bar stations, country
music's biggest stars, Live Pro Bull Riding and a Texas size dance floor for everyone to enjoy.

Sundance Square
Fort Worth's dowtown shopping and entertainment district has a variety of great dining and
entertainment locations. Have a nice dinner at one of many dining locations, followup with drinks
at The Flying Saucer Draft Emporium while enjoying one of the local bands, and finish off your
night dancing at City Streets dance club. There's something for everyone at Sundance Square.

Please RSVP
So ya think you'd like to attend eh? Maybe you'd like MORE information?
Well send me an email!

I need to figure out just how many charcoal grills we will have available on which days. This is a two day event, if you plan to attend on Saturday but not Sunday, or Sunday but not Saturday, or BOTH days, please let me know. There is probably room for about 25 shooters at any given time, but there's only enough room to park a dozen or so cars, if you can carpool that would be great. There is plenty of room to stand around and BS and eat, we'd like to see a large turnout, just please let us know you're coming. I haven't had anyone mention bringing air for everyone this year like we had last year with the nitrogen tanks, so until I hear differently expect to bring your own air/pump for PCPs.
