I used 1" wide by 1/4 thick brass from Mcmaster Carr. For a six inch long piece it was only 2.40.

I happen to have a scroll-belt sander and it works well for keeping the sides square. Marking the holes as accurate as possible using the 2289 band as a guide.

I used a forester bit for wood and it also cuts brass very easily. This hole is nice and flat so it was easy to get the the brass rod in square for soldering.

If you know how to solder this is pretty easy for you.

This picture is after the pivot pin is drilled and that is one part that has to be done very accurately. The pin is then used to align the part for marking the slot on both sides. The pin isn't shown in this picture.

Holes are drilled to make the cutting with dremmel cutting wheel easier. The holes aren't too straight but they are well inside the marked lines for the slot.

The finished part with holes tapped for stainless pivot pin set screw and barrel holding set screws are on both sides and square to the barrel. They are tightened at the same time to center the barrel. This might seem hard to do but it really isn't hard using two Allen wrenches. Hopefully this post will help to inspire someone to try and do this stuff yourself. I made this part in less than a day.
