Dave's Shooting Bench, Back Stop and Rifle Rest

I saw this on the Crosman Forum and asked Dave to do a write up on these three wonderful projects. This is one of the best how to projects I have seen. Many thanks to Dave for taking the time to put this together for the site. --- Joel

Shooting Bench

Materials:
Legs - 3" structure pipe,2-1/2" structure pipe,1/2"x6"x6" flat steel,1/4"x2"x2" flat steel
Frame - 1/4"x2"x2" angle iron,1/4"x2" flat steel
Top - Is just easily replaceable 2by4's secured to frame from underneath with 5/16"x1-1/4" lag screws
All four legs are height adjustable, can rotate and have pivoting feet. There is about 4" - 5" of height
adjustment. The feet were made to accommodate differences in grade between all four feet. The bench
can be leveled and all four feet can sit flat on the ground. Very solid and very stable.

Rifle Rest

Material - 4"x2" light gauge steel rectangular tubing,1-1/2"x1-1/2" light gauge steel square tubing,1/2" x4"x6" flat
steel,1" round rod.
As much of this Rifle Rest was made on a Bridgeport, I really don't remember all of the original steel dimensions for many of the smaller parts.
The front and rear rests are height adjustable, can rotate and can slide forwards and backwards on top of the main beam (approx. 6") to accommodate differences in different rifles. The cross supports (front and rear) that support the main beam can also slide forwards and backwards (approx. 6") so that optimum stability can be achieved. The feet are height adjustable (approx. 2").You will notice that each foot has been turned down
to a sharp point. I have since rounded them off because they were starting to eat up my bench top. I now just place 1/8"x2"dia. rubber pads under each foot. Seems to work very well.
This piece as well as the backstop, bench rest and shooting bench are all made "heavy duty" and were for the most part not intended to be portable, i.e.. I don't think the wind will blow any of it away anytime soon.

Back Stop with Wind Gauge

Materials :
Uprights - 1" sch.40 pipe,1" threaded pipe couplings (2),1" threaded pipe couplings (bored out so that 1" pipe will slide through)(2),1/4"x1-1/2" angle iron,1/8"x1-1/2"x1-1/2"x2"L angle iron Target Holder - Frame - 1-5/8"x5/8" solid unistrut Target Holder - Backing - 3/4" plywood,11 ga. plate steel.
Legs are height adjustable and can rotate. The feet also can pivot. They were made to accommodate differences in grade between the feet. The backing is easily replaceable 3/4" plywood. The actual target holders are those little spring paper clips that you can buy anywhere for real cheap. They are attached to the backing by oval head sheet metal screws and are also easily replaced. They do a real good job of
holding the target flat and you don't have to worry about losing them.

Although you will have to replace the plywood from time to time it is easily done by lifting off the removable piece of unistrut on the top of the backing. With the piece of 11ga. plate steel behind the plywood it fits nice and snug within the frame. It also assures of no complete penetration of any pellet. It will even stop a .22 short without even denting the 11ga. plate steel.
